How to Use Facebook and Other Social Networking Sites to Sell Your Ebook IN A DAY
    Darin Jewell

This ebook explains how essential social networking is in selling and promoting your ebook on the Internet in the digital age. In fact, the success of ebooks depends primarily on how well-versed you are on Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and so on, and how well you converse with other virtual social butterflies. It is not just about having a Facebook page or Google+ account; instead, it is about knowing which applications and analytics on these sites are likely to benefit you most as a writer, including building your author brand, building an increasing fan base and maximizing your ebook sales. This book first sets out a list of the top 15 social media websites in terms of unique monthly visitors to the site, ranging from Facebook, with 750+ million monthly visitors, to Badoo, with a lowly 2.5 million monthly visitors. Before discussing, in our experience, which of these sites is likely to benefit authors, we explain how to develop a daily, weekly, monthly and biannual marketing to-do checklist, and how to track your results. This book also details how to set yourself up on Facebook, with a focus on the lingo and best practices, before discussing the site’s Edgerank and Insights features, and mastering the art of social engagement. Finally, this guide offers a step-by-step explanation of how to maximize connectivity between a variety of social networking sites, all with the specific needs of authors in mind. The ever-changing protocols and practicalities associated with LinkedIn, MySpace, Google+, Ning and Bebo are also discussed, detailing why it is important to make relevant and timely posts, avoid internet trolls and keep fully informed of changes and how they might affect your marketing platform.

  • Notjohn s Guide to E-Book Formatting: Ten Steps To Getting Your Book Ready To Sell Online

Notjohn’s Guide to E-Book Formatting: Ten Steps To Getting Your Book Ready To Sell Online
    N. J. Notjohn

The self-publisher's bible! In this clear and entertaining ten-step guide, now in its eighth edition, a prolific American author tells how he formats his books using free software for upload to online bookstores. The secret, he explains, is to use the universal "epub" format to create a single e-book file that will be accepted by every digital retailer, from Amazon.com through Barnes & Noble, the Apple iBookstore, and smaller booksellers like the Canada-based Kobo. "Most beginners write their books in Word or Open Office," Notjohn says, "and then they up to upload the same document for conversion to an e-book. Sometimes it works; more often it doesn't, because these programs litter the file with hidden formatting. The result can be a disaster." Instead, the word-processing document should be converted to clean HTML, the markup language used to create a web page. (All e-books are web pages at heart, and the Kindle and other e-book readers are just special-purpose web browsers.) The conversion from document to HTML file takes seconds. It can then be plugged into a simple template that Notjohn includes in this Guide and also makes available on his blog for anyone to use. He also supplies a style sheet to format the book for best appearance on the Kindle, Fire tablet, the various Kindle apps, as well as on competing tablets and e-book readers. If all else fails, there's Plan B: a stripped-down template for novels and for non-fiction that consists mostly of text. He concludes with a chapter on how best to present your e-book on the Kindle platform, with hints on encrypting the book, copyrighting it, and pricing it for the greatest return. And new this year: a chapter on adapting the e-book to a print edition. With illustrations and screenshots. Revised and updated 2017edition.

  • What is e-book?

    What is e-book?
    Nicolae Sfetcu

The e-book guide for publishers: how to publish, EPUB format, ebook readers and suppliers. An electronic book (also e-book, ebook, electronic book, digital book) is a book-length publication in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both, and produced on, published through, and readable on computers or other electronic devices. An e-book can be purchased/borrowed, downloaded, and used immediately, whereas when one buys or borrows a book, one must go to a bookshop, a home library, or public library during limited hours, or wait for a delivery. Electronic publishing or ePublishing includes the digital publication of e-books and electronic articles, and the development of digital libraries and catalogues. EPUB (short for electronic publication; alternatively capitalized as ePub, ePUB, EPub, or epub, with "EPUB" preferred by the vendor) is a free and open e-book standard by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF). Self-publishing is the publication of any book or other media by the author of the work, without the involvement of an established third-party publisher. One of the greatest benefits brought about by ebooks software is the ability for anyone to create professional ebooks without having to fork out thousands of dollars to design and publish a book. People can easily become authors overnight and earn income from selling online ebooks.

Set Up a Website and Blog for Your Book in a Day
    Conrad Jones

In this book, we explain the basics of setting up shop on the internet, which includes choosing the right domain name. You need to optimize your website for the search engines by selecting the right key words and phrases, and integrating them into your website so they will help your site rank higher on major search engines including Google, Bing and Yahoo. We discuss how you can create a content-rich website that features an inviting home page, an About the Author page, a list of previous books published and other writings, news and events, and a contact page in order to attract more visitors to your site. Your website should be as professional as your writing. If it is replete with grammatical mistakes or out of date, visitors may also assume that your book is amateurish and difficult to read. There are a number of ways to promote your website, track your visitors and sell your book, including making it as easy as possible for readers to find your site by key word optimisation, and linking social media websites and blogs. You can even secure reciprocal links, which will get you higher ranking on search engines, and you monitor your visitor traffic logs so you know what content is resonating most with your readers. We also guide you through the many blog publishing platforms and help your choose the right one, and outline the general do's and don'ts of blogging. Finally, we discuss the book blogging tour: how to contact other bloggers, how to organize your posts, make them compelling and content-rich, and how to follow up with your blog hosts and other bloggers to convert them into social media 'followers' and fans.

  • Reading and Writing the Electronic Book

Reading and Writing the Electronic Book
    Catherine C. Marshall

Developments over the last 20 years have fueled considerable speculation about the future of the book and of reading itself. This book begins with a gloss over the history of electronic books, including the social and technical forces that have shaped their development. The focus then shifts to reading and how we interact with what we read: basic issues such as legibility, annotation, and navigation are examined as aspects of reading that eBooks inherit from their print legacy. Because reading is fundamentally communicative, I also take a closer look at the sociality of reading: how we read in a group and how we share what we read. Studies of reading and eBook use are integrated throughout the book, but Chapter 5 "goes meta" to explore how a researcher might go about designing his or her own reading-related studies. No book about eBooks is complete without an explicit discussion of content preparation, i.e., how the electronic book is written. Hence, Chapter 6 delves into the underlying representation of eBooks and efforts to create and apply markup standards to them. This chapter also examines how print genres have made the journey to digital and how some emerging digital genres might be realized as eBooks. Finally, Chapter 7 discusses some beyond-the-book functionality: how can eBook platforms be transformed into portable personal libraries? In the end, my hope is that by the time the reader reaches the end of this book, he or she will feel equipped to perform the next set of studies, write the next set of articles, invent new eBook functionality, or simply engage in a heated argument with the stranger in seat 17C about the future of reading. • How to Publish and Sell Your Ebook IN A DAY

How to Publish and Sell Your Ebook IN A DAY
    Darin Jewell

This ebook explains in straightforward, step-by-step instructions how to turn your book into an ebook and give it the best chance of being a bestseller: by first making sure that the manuscript itself is up to scratch, which involves including ‘hooks’ like readers’ names and recognizable places into your book; by starting straight away with useful information (for non-fiction) or an action scene (for fiction) that will capture the reader’s attention right from the outset; by adding depth to your characters; by choosing your words carefully, as some retailers will not stock books with too many expletives; and by giving your book added authenticity through scene description and by double-checking your facts, which will increase your chances for positive reviews. Once you have done these basics, the next step is to either have your book professionally proofread or proof it yourself following the standard UK grammatical rules and style guide set out in this ebook. This book also demystifies the tricky stage of typesetting your manuscript in preparation for publication, including page breaks, hard returns, spacing issues, special indentation and inserting images, all of which will ensure that the book translates cleanly and professionally when converted into ebook format. Finally, this book covers final steps, including writing an engaging synopsis and back cover blurb for your book (called ‘back matter’), and organizing the title and copyright pages with an active table of contents (called ‘front matter’). It also explains, in simple terms, the technical process of converting your book into an ebook and uploading it for sale on Amazon Kindle. ‘How to Publish and Sell your E-Book IN A DAY’ will help you produce professional ebooks that will appear high in Amazon’s search results and offer your ebook the widest readership possible.
